The Knitting Machine (2002)
installation, knitting large flag
Downtown Providence
The Knitting Machine, 2002. The first time we were knitting using the excavators on the site. It happened in downtown providence next to the federal building. A daunting task but thanks to many, city officials, patron, friends and especially the team this was a pivitol success and threshold in my work.
I have done my best to caption and credit the photos accurately. If I mixed it up, please let me know.
The Crew2002:
Christpher Hildebrand
Dave Cole
Joel Taplin
Hinmaton Hisler
Clay Rockefeller
Clark Sopper (not pictured)
The Knitting Machine would not have been possible without the generosity and support of:
Baker Tractor
Tellart
Foss Fleet/Ruinin Mfg.
Astra Ventures
The Armory Revival Co.
Facilities, fabrication, and technical support were provided by The Steelyard, Providence (www.thesteelyard.org)
